The ROG Xbox Ally handheld was officially announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, and as we build up to its release later this year, we've put together this all-new guide sharing everything we know about the handheld so far.
As you may recall, we had a guide before the device was announced that's now way out of date, and we've since published a bunch of articles on the ROG Xbox Ally here at Pure Xbox, but this is our chance to gather everything together in one centralised location - a place for you to come when you want the latest details on the ROG Xbox Ally handheld! As you'd expect, we'll be updating this guide whenever we get new information to share.
So, down below, you'll find everything we know so far on the ROG Xbox Ally release date, price, features, supported games and more. If you still have questions for us, throw them in the comments and we'll do our best to answer them.
What Is The Name Of The Xbox 2025 Handheld?
Xbox is calling its 2025 handheld the "ROG Xbox Ally". There are actually two versions of this device, with the standard one just being called the "ROG Xbox Ally" and the more premium version being called the "ROG Xbox Ally X".
These names might sound confusing, but they're basically just following the naming scheme that ASUS has used for its ROG Ally devices in the past - with the word "Xbox" thrown in the middle.
Is This An Xbox Console Or A Windows 11 PC?
It's kind of both, although it leans much more towards being a Windows 11 PC. Just like the older ROG Ally devices, the ROG Xbox Ally handheld will run Windows 11 and serve as a powerful PC, but Team Xbox is working to make the user interface feel more like a console.
They're also tweaking the operating system to ensure that Windows essentially gets placed in the background unless you want to use it, meaning you can focus on playing games instead of messing around with Windows 11.
What's The Difference Between The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X?
The standard ROG Xbox Ally handheld comes with an AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A Processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The processor is expected to be comparable to the one in Valve's Steam Deck, although it's still early days and we don't have all the details about how well it'll perform yet.
Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally X comes with an AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme Processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM and 1TB of SSD storage, along with the addition of impulse triggers. As the premium model, this is expected to deliver fantastic performance - but inevitably at a higher cost than the standard ROG Xbox Ally.
We've highlighted the full specs for both versions of the 2025 Xbox handheld elsewhere on Pure Xbox:
